Instructor: Eggers, Whitney   
Keyboarding is a semester class. Students will learn basic keyboarding (typing) with an emphasis on correct technique.

Grades: 50% for Assignments and 50% for Speed tests. If a student does not complete a lesson on time, the grade entered will be a zero until the student finishes a lesson.

Requirements: Students will need a notebook/folder; an agenda; a pen and a pencil.

A silent reading book or other material must be brought to class daily in case of technical difficulties.

Assignments: Assignments include daily typing lessons each line must be typed three times for credit, worksheets, puzzles, vocabulary etc.  Assignments MUST include a full heading at the top of the paper including: First and Last Name, date, period, class, teacher, assignment (including Lesson number and line). Points may be deducted for incomplete headings. All Lessons and Lines must be completed at EJH for credit.  A practice book may be checked out to use at home.

Speed Tests: Speed tests will  usually be given on Fridays. They will not begin until Quarters 2 or 4 respectively.

MON - THURSDAY basic lessons and assignments.  FRIDAYS "make up day"; speed tests; free typing; approved games.   Keyboarding make-up will  also be available before school daily at 7am in rm 44/45 .It would be a good idea for students to let Mrs. Michaelson know in advance if they are planning to attend as sometimes she has a morning meeting.  Students are to bring their agenda to be signed in. Thank you.


Absences:  If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to make up/gather their work.  Make-up days are listed above.

Semester Test:  There will be a semester test. The test will be both written & a speed test will be given.  The average of these two tests will constitute the semester test. It will count for 10% of the overall grade.

Communication: The best way to reach Mrs. Eggers is via email at weggers@isd221.net or via phone at 365-2921 x1239 during school hours. Conferences may be set up at anytime through the Counseling Office, Mrs. Schumaker or ettaschumaker@isd221.net or phone 365-2921 ask for the Counseling Office.  Grades are posted on the school website at least once a week.  Assignments are posted as well.
Class Announcements
Qtr 4 begins with no tardies and everyone has an A!
All students have a "clean slate" as Qtr 4 begins.  All students have an "A" and the marking of tardies begins all over again.  Hopefully students maintain their grades by completing homework on time, using classtime wisely, and coming prepared to class with required assignments and writing implements.  Extra help or time to work is available in Zero Hour rm 39 beginning @ 7am Mon - Fri, or at lunch, or 8th Period after school.

Qtr 3 Ends/Spring Break
March 30 all grades are due/April 1 report cards will be handed out Spring Break is March 22-28 No School
President's Weekend No School Monday
There will be no school on Monday February 15 due to President's weekend

Semester 2/Q!tr 3 Begin: Schedule changes 5 days only!
Students wishing Schedule changes need to sign up in the Counseling Office by Jan 25.  See student Planner for more details!
Semester Finals
Final/semester tests begin Jan 12,13,14.  Check with your teacher for individual information regarding your study guides/tests. Good Luck!
Per 6 Keyboarding Study Guide Due Jan 11/Semester Test Jan 12:  80 multiple choice questions & 5 min speed test.  The two will be averaged to make up the "Semester Test Grade".
Zero Hour Begins
Zero Hour will begin January 4 @ 7am -7:40am in rm 39.  Students arriving by 7:05 am will receive a free breakfast.  Zero hour is for help in math/science though any students may attend with a permission slip for all subjects.  Permission slips may be obtained through the counseling office or any teacher.  There will be a Parent Night March 11 from 6-8pm which parents must attend with their student to learn how to use the PASS system to view student grades and the Fusion site to see scheduled assignements.
First Progress Report of Qtr 2
Nov 24 is the first Progress Report of Qtr 2.  It will be distributed during per  and will be due signed for a grade and will count as an assignment. Extra credit is given to those who turn it in on time.
Direct Writing Assessment 7th Grade
All 7th Grade students will be required to bring a black ball point pen to class on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 to take the DWA.  Students are to bring a reading book to read when finished with the test.
End of Qtr 1/Parent Teacher Conferences
The official end of Qtr 1 is Oct 30.  Parent Teacher conferences will be held in the cafeteria from 5:30pm until 8:00pm Nov. 4/5, Wednesday & Thursday in the cafeteria. Please come to school with or without your student and pick up report cards and wait on line to speak to teachers of your choice.  Mrs. Eggers will only be available on Wednesday Nov 4.  If you would like to make arrangements to meet at another time to discuss pupil progress, please contact her by phone at 365-2921x1239 or email weggers@isd221.net.  There will also be a "sign up sheet" available to have Mrs. Eggers contact you on Thursday night.  Thank you in advance!
Progress Reports distributed Oct 8
Students will be receiving PR during per 3 Oct 8, Thurs.  They need to be signed and returned for a grade in Mrs. Eggers classes by Wednesday, October 14 for a grade.
EJH Spirit Week
In light of Homecoming at EHS, we will participate in Spirit week and have the following "dress up days".  Students are not allowed to wear "face paint or hair dye" for these days.  "Costumes" are acceptable at the discretion of the teacher.  Wed:  Cowboy/Native American Day; Thurs:  Decade Day; Fri:  Blue/White Day.
No 7am Sept 15 - 18
There will be NO extra typing practice available Wed, Thurs, Fri this week.  It will resume next week on Mon Sept 21 @ 7am.
Early Release
Begining Wednesday, Sept 16, students will be released at 1:43pm.  Athletes involved in Cross Country, Football, Volleyball will report to the Cafeteria for a snack and to do homework while supervised.  Regular practice will begin at 3pm. Other students not involved in athletics, will go home.  Early release will take place on Wednesdays from now until mid May.
Progress Reports
Students will receive their first progress report this Thursday, Sept 10 during period 3.
Supplies
Keyboarding Supplies include:  a folder to keep all work and handouts; a student planner; a pen and pencil daily; a silent reading book or other work to do in class in case of technical difficulty.  Optional items include tissues, hand sanitizer.
